The vitamin C

A source of vitamin C, from the fruit we press in

Our Turmeric Shots are pressed with pineapple, orange and lemon alongside the raw turmeric, which makes them a source of vitamin C.

Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage.

As part of a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. That's an authorised claim about vitamin C the nutrient, not a claim about turmeric and not a treatment for anything.

Where these fit

Turmeric, ginger and your joints - honestly

There's a lot of noise around turmeric and joints. Here's the straight version from someone who trained in nutrition. Turmeric and ginger are two of the oldest kitchen roots there are. The research has studied them a great deal. That's genuinely interesting. It's also not the same as a promise.

The studies looked at turmeric and curcumin, not at our shot.

Curcumin is the compound that gives turmeric its colour and has been researched for a long time. We think that history is worth knowing about, so we don't hide it. But a shot is a glass of pressed roots, not a medicine and not a treatment. What a study found in a lab isn't a claim we can make about a bottle. So we won't.

For proper guidance on looking after your joints, Versus Arthritis and the NHS are the people to read. If you've got ongoing joint pain, please see your GP.

What we can offer is simpler and honest: two well-made roots, cold-pressed from whole turmeric and ginger, that a lot of people just like having in their day. Read the research, form your own view and take it as the glass of ingredients it is.

The roots

Turmeric, ginger and black pepper

Three kitchen staples, pressed cold. Here's what's in the bottle and where to read more.

Cold-pressed turmeric shot with raw turmeric root

Turmeric

Raw turmeric root, cold-pressed. The golden root that's been a kitchen and traditional staple across South Asia for centuries. Our shot presses it fresh, never from powder.

Cold-pressed ginger shot with fresh raw ginger root

Ginger

Fresh ginger root, from a gentle 10g shot to a fierce 30g one. One of the most-studied roots in the kitchen, a warming companion to turmeric.

Cracked black pepper, the kitchen partner to turmeric

Black pepper

Cracked black pepper, the classic kitchen partner to turmeric. The two have been cooked together for as long as anyone's cooked with turmeric, so we press them that way too.

From our founder

Why I press the roots

Lou Stokely, founder of Recovery Juice and qualified Nutritional Advisor

Lou Stokely

Founder & qualified Nutritional Advisor

I'm a qualified nutritional advisor. Turmeric and ginger are the two roots I get asked about more than any others. People have cooked with them and taken them for a very long time. The research has studied them a great deal. That history is genuinely interesting and I don't think you should have to squint at a supplement bottle to learn about it.

So I press them honestly. Raw turmeric with pineapple, orange, lemon and cracked black pepper. Fresh ginger, from a gentle everyday shot to a fierce one. Whole roots, cold-pressed, never from powder and never from concentrate. What the studies examined was curcumin and ginger in a lab, not a bottle on my shelf, so I'll tell you the history and let you read it yourself rather than dress it up as a promise.

I won't call a shot a cure or a fix for anything, because it isn't one. You deserve better than that from someone who trained in this. A shot is a glass of pressed roots. Some people just like having turmeric and ginger in their day, made properly. That's a good enough reason on its own.

If you do take them, take them as an everyday glass rather than a one-off. The habit is the part that matters, not any single shot. If you want to see what a month of it actually looks like, we've written that up too.

If you've got ongoing joint pain, please see your GP, especially if you take any medication, as ginger and turmeric can interact with some. A shot is food, not treatment - and anyone telling you one drink will fix your joints is selling you something.

The other root

Ginger, turmeric's usual companion

Turmeric and ginger tend to travel together, in the kitchen and in the research. Ginger is one of the most-studied roots there is, studied closely for a very long time. I'm a nutrition advisor and I think that history is worth knowing, so I've put it here alongside the turmeric rather than leaving it out.

That's a note about what the research has examined, not a promise about any one shot. A food isn't a medicine and effects depend on the person. If it interests you, read it yourself, form your own view and check with your GP if you take any medication. What I can say plainly is what's in the bottle: fresh ginger root, cold-pressed, from a gentle 10g shot to a fierce 30g one.

Your questions

Something we've missed? Get in touch - Lou reads every message.

Is turmeric good for joints?

Here's the honest version. Turmeric and its compound curcumin have been studied a great deal, which is genuinely interesting. But those studies looked at curcumin, not at our shot. A shot is a glass of pressed roots rather than a treatment, so it isn't a claim we can or will make. For proper guidance, Versus Arthritis and the NHS are the people to read. If you've got ongoing joint pain, see your GP.

Are your turmeric shots a source of vitamin C?

Yes. Our Turmeric Shots are pressed with pineapple, orange and lemon, which makes them a source of vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage, as part of a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

What's in your turmeric shot?

40g of raw turmeric in a 60ml shot, pressed with pineapple, orange, lemon and cracked black pepper. It's cold-pressed from whole root, never from powder or concentrate, then frozen fresh. Our Ginger Turmeric shot adds fresh ginger and a little honey.

Why do you add black pepper?

Because turmeric and black pepper have been cooked together for as long as anyone has cooked with turmeric. It's part of how the shot is traditionally made. We add it for that reason and because it belongs there. We keep to what's in the bottle rather than making claims about it.

Turmeric or ginger - which should I choose?

They're different roots and both worth having. Turmeric is the earthy, golden one. Ginger is the warming, fiery one. Our Ginger Turmeric shot puts both together if you can't choose. Pick whichever you'll actually keep drinking, or rotate between them. There's more in our turmeric and ginger guides.

Can I take a turmeric shot every day?

That's what the daily shots are made for. They're an everyday glass of pressed roots. If you take any medication, it's worth a word with your GP first, as turmeric and ginger can interact with some, including blood-thinning medication.

Is your juice from concentrate?

Never. It's cold-pressed from whole roots and vegetables, raw and unpasteurised, then delivered frozen to keep it as close to fresh-pressed as possible.

Does turmeric contain added sugar?

Our plain Turmeric Shots have no added sugar - the sweetness is from the pineapple and orange pressed into them. The Ginger Turmeric shot contains a little raw honey, so it isn't sugar-free or vegan. It's always on the label.

I've got ongoing joint pain - will this help?

Please see your GP. A shot is food, not treatment. Ongoing joint pain is worth getting looked at properly. Anyone telling you one drink will fix your joints is selling you something - we won't do that.
